Goebel - Artis Orbis
Auguste Renoir

Dance in the Countryside

Pierre Auguste Renoir's career was prolific and the large body of paintings, prints, and sculptures he created had a profound impact on the Impressionist movement. Born in Limoges, France in 1841, Renoir studied as a porcelain painter after showing a talent for drawing. He later studied at the studio of Charles Gleyre's, where he met Claude Monet. Together they developed the broken color technique of the Impressionist movement. Interested in rich colors and figure painting, Renoir became famous for his pictures of young girls, children, and scenes of middle class life in France.
