Brief Story about Chih-Kun (James) Tsai

I am Chih-Kun Tsai, an artist of Franz Collection, Taiwan. I was born here. Since my childhood, “art” has always been my favorite. There’re so many beautiful and lovely things in this world, and I truly believe that art is the new face from imitating all existence of Mother Nature with Creator’s intellection, creation, and design.

I majored in sculpture in National Taiwan University of Art, and experimented with various media including copper, brass, stone, wood, metal welding and plastic arts. Sketching and water coloring are also my specialties. I enjoy doing art-related activities, such as visiting museums and galleries. Admiring all kinds of exhibitions, visiting other artists, and reading have broadened my mind, enriched my knowledge, and enlightened my inspiration.

In spite of painting and sculpturing, I also enjoy other kinds of arts, such as music, dramas, and dancing. I especially love music, such as listening to concerts or CDs, playing the guitar and electronic guitar. I develop my concentration ability, which is very useful for art creation, from playing instruments. Not only imagination, also concentration and observation are important elements for creation.

After graduating from university, I worked for an artist as a teacher in Taiwan. We made large sculptures, including public arts. Until one day that I met a friend who worked in the giftware industry, I was greatly attracted! I decided to start my gift-sculpturing career, and it has been 10 years. I have worked as a sculpture in Seagull Décor Co. Ltd. for seven years, and started to work as a designer several years ago. I incredibly love what I have been doing! It is no longer a job, but an enjoyable moment when working. I will create more excellent creation for everyone.

Sculpture has always been my favorite and specialty. I admire realistic, abstractive, and plastic arts. My inspirations come from visual and beautiful experience in daily life, as well as the observation in nature. The works from Franz Collection generally take the nature as themes and we try to represent them with the original and true affection. We also strive to sublime the expression of individual work with applied but also limited materials to make it perfect. It is also the aim for all FRANZ colleagues and pursuit to create more touching works.

Before designing, I focused more on sculpturing. After “jumping” into designing, I learn a lot from my past experience in sculpturing and new experience from other outstanding designers. In addition to sculpturing in future, I will endeavor more in design to bring more excellent creation to everyone.
