The Samis live in the far north above the Artic Circle in a land called Finmark, or Lapland. For thousands of years they have followed the migration of the reindeer across the plateaux and mountains, living in harmony with nature. The Laplander Santa is dressed in traditional Samis clothing of wool and deerskin, trimmed with decorative hand woven braids. In his basket he carries the toys that Samis children love, a reindeer, a handmade doll, a sled and knitted mittens for those cold Artic nights. The Laplander Santa symbolizes the interconnection of all our lives with nature and with each other, living in peace with our world.
